エチゼンクラゲは鉢クラゲ類の中で最も大型の一種で、傘の直径はおよそ1メートルになります。東シナ海や朝鮮半島南西沿岸で発生したのち、秋ごろに日本海沿岸に漂着することがあります。
いわゆるクラゲとは、刺胞動物の有性世代の成熟体を指します。傘の内側表面（下傘）には環状と放射状の筋肉があり、傘を開閉することによって映像のような遊泳をします。ただしその移動能力はあまり高くなく、強い潮流には逆らうことができません。

Stomolophus nomurai is one of the largest species in Scyphozoan. Diameter of its umbrella is about 1 meter. It is bred around the East China Sea and the southwestern coast of the Korean Peninsula, and is often cast away on the coast of the Japan Sea in autumn.
The "medusa" is a matured individual of sexual generation of Cnidarian. The interior surface of its umbrella has ring and radial muscles, and its opening and closing movement makes it possible swim as shown in this movie. However the movement abilitiy is not so high, therefore it cannot swim against strong tidal current.
